Every blog in the city is reporting this, but it is really so awesome that I don’t mind seeing it on every one I read. Anyway, Muni released a bunch of never before seen photos from the 1906 Earthquake. This one of Alamo Square is the one I found most striking.
I know I’ve written on here about how my great great grandfather was in this quake (staying at the Palace Hotel on business from New York), and that my grandfather was in the BART tunnel during the Loma Prieta one, but whenever I see photos like this, I think of it again. The history is not particularly special, I’m sure every San Francisco family has a similar story (although up until my generation in the family, we’ve been a New York family). But, whatever. I think it’s interesting.
Also, remember that last year on this day we had that baby quake? I thought for half a second I was gonna die.
